Now that the gates are closed and the lake is up, the bass will begin to show up along the edges of the flats for the spawn. Black-blue or black-brown-amber 7/16oz Southpaw Jigs tipped with a matching craw will get your line tightened. Lizards in the black neon or black blue color Texas rigged with a light weight will catch some nice ones around the shallow Cypress Trees along the flats. Be sure to use the lightest weight possible. Preferred gear for the jig or Texas rig is a 7 foot medium heavy graphite rod, 6.3 to 1 ratio baitcast reel spooled with Vicious 17lb. fluorocarbon line.
If the water gets a little stained and a has current going over the flats, a white & chartruse 3/8 oz. spinnerbaits or a white-black back foot loose Bandit crankbait will be a good bait to have tied on. For the crankbaits and spinnerbaits a medium action graphite rod with the same reel but spooled with 15lb Vicious mono line.
